چکیده

It has previously been demonstrated (1) that in the postabsorptive state energy production of the heart depends largely on fatty acid metabolism; both esterified and nonesterified or free fatty acids (FFA) are taken up by the heart muscle. Although the general turnover rate of individual FFA has been studied, no investigations have been undertaken to discover their fate in the heart muscle. After administration of C14-labeled palmitic, oleic or linoleic acid which had been bound to albumin in vitro, Fredrickson and Gordon (2) found no difference in fractional turnover rate of these individual FFA in the plasma of the intact subject. General conclusions from these observations are difficult, since Bates and Olson (3) have pointed out that in the animal organism the fate of fatty acids bound to albumin in vitro may be different from that of endogenous FFA. The present study deals with the myocardial extraction of individual FFA. Since, in the course of this investigation, it was found that the rate of myocardial uptake of individual FFA differed, the work was extended to include the release of individual FFA by adipose tissue.

Fatty Acid Composition of Fat-Tail and Visceral Fat Depots from Chaal and Zandi Pure Bred Lambs and Their Crosses with Zel (Three Iranian Breeds)

The present study was done to evaluate the breed, sex and sampling site influence on fat-tail and visceral fatty acid composition of five pure and cross bred lambs from three Iranian sheep breeds. Particularly, on the content of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids from two cut-able fat depots (fat-tail and visceral). All animals were managed and finished up together and received the same diet....

Femoral Adipose Tissue May Accumulate the Fat That Has Been Recycled as VLDL and Nonesterified Fatty Acids

OBJECTIVE Gluteo-femoral, in contrast to abdominal, fat accumulation appears protective against diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Our objective was to test the hypothesis that this reflects differences in the ability of the two depots to sequester fatty acids, with gluteo-femoral fat acting as a longer-term "sink." RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A total of 12 healthy volunteers were studied a...

Gender differences in fat metabolism.

Women generally have a higher percentage of body fat than men. Also, women store more fat in the gluteal-femoral region, whereas men store more fat in the visceral (abdominal) depot. This review focuses on differences in regional fatty acid storage, mobilization and oxidation that may contribute to gender-related differences in body fat distribution. There are pronounced regional differences in...

Evaluation of Protein, Fat and Fatty Acids Content of the Pistachio (pistacia vera l.) Cultivars of Damghan, Iran

Pistachio nut has high nutritional value. The fat and protein are the common part of pistachio. Major part (about 88%) of the fat content of pistachio includes unsaturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids are known to have positive effects on human health like preventing to heart diseases. This research has evaluated protein, fat and fatty acids content of some commercial pistachio cultivar...

The role of epicardial and perivascular adipose tissue in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease

Obesity, insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome, are characterized by expansion and inflammation of adipose tissue, including the depots surrounding the heart and the blood vessels. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) is a visceral thoracic fat depot located along the large coronary arteries and on the surface of the ventricles and the apex of the heart, whereas perivascular adipose tissue (...
